Dental plaque is a biofilm or mass of bacteria that grows on surfaces within the mouth. It is a sticky colourless deposit at first, but when it forms calculus, or tartar, it is hard and often brown or pale yellow. It is commonly found between the teeth, on the front of teeth, behind teeth particularly along the gum line, or below the gum line. Dental plaque is also known as microbial plaque, or biofilm.
Bacterial plaque is one of the major causes for dental decay and gum disease! Plaque on the surfaces of teeth, are formed by bacteria, which are the main causes of tooth decay and gum disease. When you wake up in the morning, biofilm are the sticky, furry films that you can feel on your teeth and in your mouth. Biofilm feeds oral bacteria continuously and are reformed throughout the day.
How does AIRFLOW® work?
- LifeSmiles uses AIRFLOW® stain removal and guided biofilm therapy, which directs a fine spray of water and gentle powder onto the surfaces of teeth to remove biofilm.
- The procedure carries out two treatments simultaneously: (a) it removes staining from the surfaces of teeth caused by tea, coffee, eating, smoking, etc and (b) removal of plaque whilst leaving soft and hard tissues untouched.
- In recent years, AIR-FLOW® stain removal has emerged as one of the most effective in-surgery cleaning procedure for teeth. Furthermore, as the name suggests, AIR-FLOW® is a minimally-invasive and pain free procedure.
